The Famous Dogs Image-n-Info Bank Presents:

Gidget, or Dinky?

The article on the left, which was unfortunately scanned from a Xerox, was found in a long-forgotten issue of T.V. Guide, but which i would estimate was probably printed sometime in 1997. This article says that the Taco Bell chihuahua's name is Dinky (this can be clearly seen in the "expanded" version of the image, on the 4th line of text in the first paragraph). Soon after posting this info, i received several emails from people insisting that the dog's name was really Gidget; one contributor said that "Dinky" was the name of the dog who played the love interest in the first commercial.

On the right is the cover of a more recent issue of T.V Guide (July 1999); the caption in the lower left states that the chihuahua shown in the montage is "Gidget, the Taco Bell Dog."

I don't know which is right, but my inclination is to believe what my contributors say: that "Gidget" is the pup who starred in all those commercials. Again, though, i am not completely certain.

Note: The cute little puppy seen in the lower left corner of the black & white image is Satô, the Jack Russell terrier from the popular surreal Nissan ads of the late 90's.

Caption (right image): Clockwise from left: John Gilchrist, better known as Life Cereal's Mikey; Gidget, the Taco Bell Dog; Michael Jordon; and the Energizer Bunny
